By India Today Sports Desk: Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni in a tributary message to Ambati Rayudu, who retired from the Indian Premier League after the IPL 2023 final, said that the CSK great was a lot like him and hoped that the middle-order batter will enjoy the next phase of his life. Dhoni added that he and Rayudu played India A together and felt the CSK batter would do something special in his final game which he will not ever forget.

Notably, Rayudu declared before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 final that the title clash would be his final, and he would not change his mind. And he finished his IPL career with a fairytale ending, playing a decisive 19-run knock in his farewell match that included two maximums and a boundary to help the CSK write history on Tuesday in Ahmedabad.

Rayudu, like MS Dhoni, was overcome with emotion following CSK’s fifth title win, and his eyes told the entire tale. The batter’s voice was filled with sadness as he thanked the franchise’s fans, his family, and especially his father before saying goodbye to his 22-year career.

Dhoni said that a special thing about Rayudu was that with him in the team, CSK would never win the fair play award because Ambati jumps in celebration pretty early. Rayudu described Chennai’s performance in this season’s league as a fairytale that ended like a dream.

He joined the Super Kings prior to the 2018 IPL season and has been a key part of the team’s three victories since then. Prior to joining Chennai, the Andhra Pradesh-born cricketer spent eight years with the Mumbai Indians, where he won three titles.

“A special thing about Rayudu is, with him on the team I will never win the fair play award. He jumps in celebration or something like that pretty early. He always wants to contribute. We played India A together. We are a part of the team together. He is someone who plays the spin and pace well. I thought he will do something special tonight and didn’t he? He is also like me, who doesn’t use the phone a too lot. I hope he will enjoy the next phase of this life,” Dhoni said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
