“The situation in India is a devastating reminder of what the virus can do,” Ghebreyesus said during a virtual briefing in Geneva.
India reports 3.46 lakh fresh Covid-19 Cases and more than 2,600 Deaths.
India registered a new single-day hike of 3,45,799 COVID-19 cases, the third consecutive day with over 3 lakh covid-19 cases are recorded. As many as 2,624 deaths were also recorded on the day.
The country has so far reported a total of 1,66,03,126 cases and 1,89,553 deaths.
This is the first time, the number of testing in the country crossed the 17 lakh mark, with over 17.4 lakh tests the day before.
The number of daily tests has crossed the 16 lakh mark.

Jammu and Kashmir UT Covid Cases
Jammu and Kashmir UT reported 1937 fresh Covid-19 cases on Friday 23, 2021, and 19 deaths.
Jammu division reported 846 cases and the Kashmir division reported 1046 New covid-19 cases where Jammu reported 13 deaths and 6 others in the Kashmir division.
Amid the worsening COVID-19 crisis, Srinagar Mayor, Junaid Azim Mattu, wrote a letter to LG Manoj Sinha, suggesting banning all congregational prayers and religious gatherings in the city amid other measures to contain the spread of the virus.
Junaid has said that as the second surge of COVID mounts an unusual challenge in the entire country including Jammu and Kashmir, he wants to reaffirm the full cooperation of Srinagar Municipal Corporation to the Administration in taking every feasible measure to contain the spread of COVID and saving valuable lives.
