CSK’s batting depth proved to be winning factor: Sachin Tendulkar congratulates MS Dhoni on winning 5th IPL title

By India Today Sports Desk: In a gripping IPL 2023 final, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) emerged triumphant with a five-wicket victory over the Gujarat Titans (GT) in a rain-affected encounter in Ahemdadbad. The match, which was forced to be rescheduled to the reserve day due to heavy rainfall, witnessed CSK successfully chasing a revised target of 171 runs in 15 overs.

After the match, India batting legend Sachin Tendulkar hailed CSK by saying that Dhoni-led team’s batting depth proved to be the winning factor. Tendulkar congratulated Captain Cool and also acknowledged GT for their “commendable efforts till the very last ball”.

IPL 2023 Final, CSK vs GT Highlights

“What a finish to one of the most enthralling @IPL seasons ever! Both @ChennaiIPL and @gujarat_titans fought fiercely, but Chennai’s batting depth proved to be the winning factor, just as I had mentioned,” Tendulkar tweeted.

“Choosing a winner was no easy task given the exceptional performances by both teams from the very beginning. It was only fitting that the match unfolded with nail-biting intensity until the very last ball.

“Congratulations to @msdhoni and the entire Chennai team for clinching yet another IPL title. Must also acknowledge the Gujarat Titans for their commendable efforts till the very last ball. Unfortunately there must be only 1 winner but both teams won all our hearts! Well played, everyone!”

Gujarat Titans set an imposing total of 214/4, largely propelled by B Sai Sudharsan’s sensational knock of 96 off just 47 balls. However, rain interrupted the proceedings, and CSK’s target was adjusted accordingly. CSK began their run chase with an explosive start, as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway bludgeoned 74 runs in a mere 6.3 overs. Despite losing wickets in quick succession, CSK stayed in contention with Shivam Dube’s unbeaten 32.

Heading into the final over, CSK required 13 runs, and the outcome hung in the balance. However, Ravindra Jadeja orchestrated a thrilling turnaround by striking a six and a four off the last two balls, propelling CSK to a remarkable victory. With this win, CSK equaled the record for the most IPL titles, joining their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians in the illustrious feat.

The final match held additional significance as speculations swirled that it could be the last appearance of the legendary MS Dhoni. The ardent fans, who flocked to the Narendra Modi Stadium, were treated to Dhoni’s strategic brilliance throughout the tournament. Despite nursing a knee injury, Dhoni showcased his exceptional skills both behind the stumps and while guiding his team on the field.
