By India Today Sports Desk: Gujarat Titans paid tribute to MS Dhoni after the Captain Cool’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lifted the record-equalling fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy.

In a thrilling IPL 2023 final, CSK emerged victorious by five wickets in a rain-affected contest against GT. The match, which was pushed to the reserve day due to heavy downpour, saw CSK chasing a revised target of 171 in 15 overs.

“Vhala Thala, We knew we’d have to battle against not just your genius, but the sea of #Yellove in this fairytale final. While we’re disappointed tonight, this child within us is happy as ever, to witness you hold up that trophy,” Gujarat Titans tweeted.

Gujarat Titans posted a formidable total of 214 for four, thanks to a scintillating knock of 96 off 47 balls by B Sai Sudharsan. However, rain interrupted play, and CSK’s target was adjusted. CSK got off to a blazing start, with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway smashing 74 runs in just 6.3 overs. Despite losing quick wickets, CSK remained in the chase with Shivam Dube’s unbeaten 32.

With 13 runs needed from the final over, CSK’s victory seemed uncertain. However, Ravindra Jadeja turned the game around by hitting a six and a four off the last two balls, taking CSK over the line. With the win, CSK have equalled the record for the most IPL titles, joining their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians.

The final match was also significant as it was speculated that it might be Dhoni’s last match. The fans, who eagerly packed the Narendra Modi Stadium, witnessed Dhoni’s strategic brilliance throughout the tournament. Despite a knee injury, Dhoni showcased his exceptional skills both behind the stumps and while guiding his team on the field.
