By India Today Sports Desk: The Indian Test side recently clinched the title of the no. 1 team in the world, dethroning Pat Cummins’ Australia. India were crowned as the top team in the world. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri spoke in an International Cricket Council (ICC) podcast and explained what went behind India’s journey to the top of the world rankings.
The former coach said that the top spot was a tribute to India’s fitness and consistency.
“It’s a tribute to their consistency, their fitness and the way they’ve worked over the last five or six years to now be hungry and proud of wanting to belong there,” Shastri told host Sanjana Ganesan.
India will take on Australia in the final of the World Test Championship 2023. India recently defeated the side 2-1 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy hosted in India. The team dominated the Australian team in the first two Test matches. The third Test match in Indore was won by the Australian team, while the fourth one was a drab draw on a flat Ahmedabad track.
Shastri spoke about the players that India had in their side and how they had been battle-hardened after playing years of Test cricket in the last few years.
“It’s the quality of players. If you look at these players, a lot of these players are at their prime when you look at the Indian Test side. They’re experienced, they’re at that age where they’re battle-hardened, they’ve travelled around the world. They know what Test cricket is all about, they know what one-day cricket is all about, they know what T20 cricket is all about,” Shastri said on the matter.
India will take on Australia in the WTC Final from June 7.
