IPL 2023 Final: CSK bowling coach Dwayne Bravo says best friend Kieron Pollard has catching-up to do

    By India Today Sports Desk: Chennai Super Kings lifted their record-equalling 5th Indian Premier League title in a final ball thriller vs Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, 30 May. After long delays due to rain, CSK finally clinched the IPL 2023 trophy in an enthralling game of cricket against Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans.

    Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Dwayne Bravo spoke after the game and took a cheeky dig at Kieron Pollard – former Mumbai Indians player. Bravo told the broadcaster that Pollard and him had some catching up to do. Bravo’s CSK matched Mumbai Indians on the day for a record-equalling 5th IPL title. Ravindra Jadeja hit 10 runs in last 2 balls of the match to take CSK over the line in front home his home fans at Ahmedabad.

    “It’s been good and I have been very happy with him (Tushar Deshpande). But I have to give the credit to the bowling unit and the coach, Eric. It has been a great partnership between Eric and me. It has been a great moment to be working through. No, no, no I must say that we are happy with his progress and all the other guys played a crucial role for us. We believe in us. And I hope that my best friend Kieron Pollard is also watching. He has some catching up to do,” Bravo said after the match.

    Bravo extended his support to Deshpande after the bowler registered the joint second-worst figures in the Indian Premier League final. Deshpande leaked 56 runs from his four overs on the night.

    Having said that, Deshpande scalped 21 wickets in the season, the joint-highest alongside Ravindra Jadeja.

    “I said before in an interview earlier that I wanted to make improvements in my game. Throughout the season, I have tried my best. I wanted to win an IPL title. And with DJ Bravo alongside me, all my plans were quite clear,” Deshpande said after the game.

    CSK players burst into jubilation at the end of the game after a tremendous performance in the second half. CSK batting unit came to life at Ahmedabad and chased down 171 runs from just 15 overs in a rain-curtailed game.
