By India Today Sports Desk: Opening batter Devon Conway has become Chennai Super Kings’ second-highest scorer in a single Indian Premier League season. Conway ended IPL 2023 with 672 runs in 16 matches.
The New Zealand batter went past Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 2021 Orange Cap winning tally of 635 runs in 16 matches to become CSK’s second-highest scorer in a single IPL season. He is now only behind former Australia batter Michael Hussey, who scored 733 runs in IPL 2013.
Chasing 171 runs in 15 overs, Conway and Gaikwad got CSK off to a flying start, stitching a rapid 74-run stand. The two openers took on the GT bowling unit and smashed them all over the park following a rain-interrupted delay of two hours and 20 minutes after GT’s innings.
Conway missed out on his maiden IPL Final half-century, being dismissed by GT spinner Noor Ahmad in the seventh over. Conway scored 47 runs off 25 balls, hitting four boundaries and a couple of sixes. His knock in the IPL 2023 Final took his tally of runs to 672, to move up to third place in the race for the Orange Cap.
