By India Today Sports Desk: Former Australia all-rounder Tom Moody said the rain delay in the IPL 2023 Final definitely gave Chennai Super Kings the advantage. CSK beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets to win their fifth IPL title.
Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Moody said the rain delay gave CSK the advantage since the DLS method favours the chasing side. CSK chased down their revised target of 171 runs in 15 overs to win the IPL 2023 title.
“That rain delay definitely gave CSK the advantage. Therefore, the toss, and batting second, played out in their favor. To me, the total they had to chase with a reduced number of overs was more favorable than the total that they actually would have had to chase if it was a full game,” said Moody.
He went on to say that GT spinner Rashid Khan was inconsistent with his lengths, while hailing fellow Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad for his efforts with the ball. Rashid conceded 44 runs without picking any wickets, while Ahmad claimed two wickets while giving away 17 runs in three overs.
“I don’t think Rashid Khan was consistent with his lengths. He was either too short or too full. His partner-in-crime, Noor Ahmad, had the complete opposite experience, and he bowled beautifully. I am sure when Rashid looks back on this game, he would see that he didn’t have the consistency which makes him so difficult to face,” Moody added.
Moody said Rashid failed to make an impact in a big game, adding that he made the job easier for CSK to win the match. GT scored 214 for 4 in the first innings, however, a rain delay forced the target to be revised to 171 runs, which CSK chased down in the final ball of the game.
“The big story also is Rashid Khan. In a big match, a final game, where so much hinged on him, went for plenty. Made no impact at all. In fact, was one of the bowlers who made the job easier for CSK,” said Moody.
With their IPL 2023 triumph, CSK have joined Mumbai Indians to become the joint-most successful sides in the competition with five titles each.
