By India Today Sports Desk: Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir congratulated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 after beating the Gujarat Titans (GT) by wickets (DLS) in the final on Monday, May 29 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Gambhir, who captained Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to two titles in 2012 and 2014, reckoned that winning the IPL as many as five times is an “unbelievable” achievement.
Gambhir took to Twitter and wrote, “Congratulations CSK! Winning 1 title is difficult, winning 5 is unbelievable!”
Gambhir was the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), who failed to progress beyond the Eliminator of the IPL. Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated them in the Eliminator at the Chepauk after Akash Madhwal became the first bowler to pick up a five-wicket haul in IPL playoffs.
Before the start of IPL 2023, talks of Dhoni’s retirement did the rounds. However, the 41-year-old said that he would love to come back and play another season of the IPL.
“If you circumstantially see, it’s the best time to announce the retirement. The easy thing for me to say is thank you and retire. But the hard thing to do is to work hard for nine months and try to play one more IPL season. The body has to hold up. But the amount of love I have received from CSK fans, it would be a gift for them to play one more season,” Dhoni said.
After Ravindra Jadeja hit the winning boundary off Mohit Sharma, Dhoni lifted his CSK teammate in joy. Later, Jadeja also dedicated the victory to Dhoni, after which he shared pictures with his skipper. After being asked to chase down a revised target of 171 in 15 overs, the Men in Yellow got home off the last ball. Earlier, Devon Conway and Ruturaj took the Super Kings off to a flying start in their run-chase.
