- Afridi hit a score of 50 plus in T20 cricket for the first time in 3 years
- His last was for the Hampshire in the 2017 T20 Blast game against Derbyshire
- Over there as well he smashed a fifty of 20 balls and converted it into his only T20 ton
Galle Gladiators skipper Shahid Afridi was in menacing form against the Jaffna Stallions on Friday, but that was not enough to get his team their first win in LPL 2020.
The Pakistan veteran smashed a 20-ball fifty, his joint fastest in the T20 format, and eventually was dismissed for a 23-ball 58. His innings was studded with 3 fours and 6 sixes.
Interestingly, Afridi hit a score of 50 plus in T20 cricket for the first time in 3 years. His last, was for the Hampshire in the 2017 T20 Blast game against Derbyshire. Over there as well he smashed a fifty of 20 balls and then eventually went on to turn it into a big one. The innings was his lone century in the T20 format.

On Friday, however, batting at the No. 6 position, Afridi came in to bat when his team seemed to be in a spot of bother at 92/4 in the 14th over.
His blistering innings ensured that the Galle Gladiators reached an above par score of 175/8. However, that was not enough as the Jaffna Stallions found a hero in the form of Sri Lankan batsman Avishka Fernando. He smashed an unbeaten 92 off just 63 balls and took his team home.
Fernando was ably aided by Pakistan veteran Shoaib Malik, perhaps the most experienced player in the tournament. Malik kept rotating the strike and weaved in unbeaten 110 runs partnership for the team.
This partnership ensured comfortable victory for Stallions by 8 wickets in their first game of LPL 2020.
