Jammu, June 05:
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led Jammu and Kashmir on World Environment Day on Saturday in stressing the urgent need to preserve the ecosystem as there was no tomorrow to do so.
His appeal holds special significance for J&K that has rich forest and bio-diversity , but at the same time it suffered unchecked felling green trees that resulted in degradation of the ecosystem in the past 30 years of troubles . He has tried to check all this but his appeal made it clear that all-out efforts are needed by all to preserve the ecosystem
In his appeal, Manoj Sinha, particularly addressed the youth of J&K and urged them to “ take initiatives aimed at restoring ecosystems.”
The youth of J&K, who form more than 42 per cent of the total population of the Union Territory spread over from plains to high mountains in Himalayas , rich with glaciers and lakes and rare species , can play a crucial role in preserving and enriching the environment . That’s why LG Sinha made a special appeal to them to “ restore ecosystem.”
Recently , Niti Ayog Index had credited the UT of J&K under the leadership of Manoj Sinha , for expanding the forest cover . Moreover, the extension of the Indian Forest Act to J&K , which seeks to make the forest dwellers in preserving and enriching forests, was also aimed at that. J&K didn’t have this act before it became the UT, and the encroachment of forest land was going apace..
While appealing to the people, especially youth to restore the ecosystems, Manoj Sinha underlined : “ Only with conservation and protection of our rich natural resources, we can enhance people’s livelihoods, counteract climate change, and stop biodiversity loss.”
This contains the promise of decent life, livelihood and future because without natural resources , there can be no secure future for new generations . That was the essence of LG Sinha’s message today.
