By India Today Sports Desk: Tom Moody heaped praise on CSK skipper MS Dhoni after he led Chennai to their fifth IPL title on Monday with a five-wicket win over GT in Ahmedabad.
Dhoni has been hailed by many for his captaincy calls throughout the campaign and also for bringing out the best in the squad that was handed to him.
The likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube were able to reinvent themselves under the CSK skipper, while Matheesha Pathirana emerged as the biggest find for them this season.
All these players played a big role in CSK’s fifth IPL title win on Monday and Moody feels that a lot of the success is down to the culture that is set in the franchise.
Speaking to Cricinfo, the former SRH coach said that the culture in CSK is led by Dhoni, coach Stephen Fleming and the ownership and credited it as a significant piece of their success.
Moody said that Dhoni’s leadership on the field is second to none and claimed that he has a wonderful knack of getting the best out of every player and the process is a treat to watch.
The former SRH coach said Dhoni is developing the young talent and at the same time, reinventing the older players.
“As we have discussed many times before, I think a lot of this has to do with the culture that has been developed over years there, that is led by MS Dhoni, Stephen Fleming as coach and the ownership. I think that is a significant piece of their success.”
“There is a lot of consistency in what they do there and it allows players to express themselves and to be free. MS Dhoni’s leadership on the field is second to none. How he has got this wonderful knack to get the very best out of every player is just great to watch.”
“Because he is developing the young and reinventing the old. And I just love how he does this so cleverly, and that’s the reason why they have played the final today and also won it,” said Moody.
