By India Today Sports Desk: Former cricketer Irfan Pathan doffed his hat to Ravindra Jadeja after CSK’s thrilling last-ball win over GT in the IPL 2023 final on Monday in Ahmedabad.
Jadeja was one of the key stars for CSK with the ball this season as he picked up 20 wickets in 16 matches, his best tally in the IPL so far. The 34-year-old’s contributions with the bat were minimal this season as the CSK top-order delivered throughout the season.
However, during the playoffs, Jadeja played some important cameos, with the main one coming in Ahmedabad on Monday.
The CSK all-rounder hit a six and a boundary off the final two deliveries as Chennai won the match and sealed their fifth IPL title. Speaking on Star Sports, Pathan heaped praise on the 34-year-old and said he delivered for CSK in a crunch situation and took his team to the title.
Pathan also said that Jadeja was able to put the disappointments of last season behind him. The former cricketer also said seeing the son of Gujarat win a match for Chennai in Ahmedabad was the best finish to the match.
“Hat’s off to Sir Jadeja. He delivered for CSK in a crunch situation and took his team to a record-equalling fifth IPL title. He held on to his nerves even as the game seemed to have slipped away from CSK’s grip. Personally, he went through a lot last season, but the India star all-rounder has put all the disappointments behind him. The son of Gujarat wins it for a team from Chennai in front of a capacity ground in Ahmedabad. It couldn’t have been better,” said Pathan.
After the match, Jadeja had dedicated the win to CSK skipper MS Dhoni.
“Want to say big congratulations to CSK fans. Want to dedicate this win to one of the special members of our team – MS Dhoni. I was just thinking that I need to swing hard no matter what. Yeah, anything can happen. I was looking to hit straight because Mohit can bowl slower ones. Want to say congratulations to each and every fan of CSK. Just keep cheering the way you’ve been cheering,” Jadeja told STAR Sports after the match.
