By India Today Sports Desk: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clinched their fifth title in a thrilling rain-curtailed, defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets through the DLS method in the IPL 2023 final. The match, held at a jam-packed Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, concluded in the early hours of Tuesday morning at 1:35 AM.
The Titans set a formidable target of 214/4 in their allotted 20 overs, propelled by an explosive knock of 96 runs off just 47 balls by Sai Sudharsan and a spirited 54 runs off 39 by Wriddhiman Saha.
However, just as the Chennai Super Kings began their run chase, rain interrupted play, causing a delay of over two hours. The game eventually resumed at 12:10 am, with a revised target of 171 runs in 15 overs. CSK’s openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway provided a strong start, putting on 74 runs.
In the final over, with CSK needing 10 runs off two balls, the experienced Ravindra Jadeja turned the tide in his team’s favour. Jadeja, known for his all-round skills, smashed pacer Mohit Sharma for a six and a four, sealing a remarkable victory for Chennai Super Kings and their captain MS Dhoni. With this win, CSK joined the Mumbai Indians as the most successful teams in the IPL’s 16-season history.
CSK legend Suresh Raina hailed Jadeja’s all-round heroics and said that he was happy that Jadeja got to hit the winning shot in the final. Raina added that only Jadeja could have taken CSK over the line.
“I am very happy that Ravindra Jadeja got to hit the winning shot. The way he has been wanting to help the team to wins, hitting a six and a four after amazing dot balls from Mohit Sharma. I think this was sensational,” Raina said on JioCinema.
“You could see MS Dhoni hugging Jadeja in the dressing room. This is a massive moment, all of India was cheering them on. JioCinema was covering them, even the ground was yellow. Ravindra Jadeja has done something only sir Ravi Jadeja would!”
