By India Today Sports Desk: CSK coach Stephen Fleming heaped praise on match-winner Ravindra Jadeja and said that he delivered in the IPL 2023 final to help the team win their fifth IPL title.
Jadeja has had a terrific season for CSK with the ball as he picked up 20 wickets in the IPL 2023 campaign, which was his best outing in the competition.
The Indian all-rounder’s contribution with the bat was a mixed one this year. However, in the Playoffs this season, the 34-year-old was able to make an impact with both bat and ball.
Jadeja’s all-round contribution was crucial in Qualifier 1 against GT and he came back to haunt the same opponents in the final. The left-arm spinner took the big wicket of Shubman Gill on the day and hit the winning runs for CSK in a thrilling final ball finish.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Fleming hailed the 34-year-old’s performance and said he plays a great role with the ball for the team.
When it came to his batting, the CSK coach said that MS Dhoni is really supportive and proactive when it comes to getting Jadeja up the order.
While Fleming admitted there have been frustrating times for the Indian all-rounder, he went on to say that Jadeja is a gun player and said he delivered on the day of the final
“It was a pretty good one today. It’s probably been a difficult 18 months where the captaincy was difficult. The injury was difficult. It took a bit of time for him to be out of the game and come reinvigorated in the Test game and then reintegrate into CSK. He plays a great role with the ball. But we have so much firepower, that sometimes we use him lower down the order. But something had to give.”
“MS has been really supportive and proactive in getting him up there and today he repaid that faith. The six, in particular, off a ball that was very close to perfect was defining, and then a good left-hander straight drive through fine leg was a great way to finish it.”
“I couldn’t be more happy for him. Yeah, there has been some frustration at times, but he is a gun player. No.1 ranked player and today he delivered.”
